Siddhartha Dalal, Professor of Professional Practice in SPS and in the Statistics Department, has been awarded a Meritorious Civilian Service Medal by the U.S. Army for his work with the Army Science Board.

The board provides independent recommendations to the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Secretary of Defense on important science, technology and management issues. Dalal joined the board in 2012 as a full member of the board consisting of 20 prominent scientists across the country, and finished his current term in 2021.

Prior to joining the board, he was at Bell Labs/Bellcore (Chief Scientist), Xerox (Research VP), RAND (CTO), and AIG (Chief Data Scientist). When he joined the board, he brought these experiences to the board for solving critical problems facing the Army and the Department of Defense.

In an announcement of the award, the Army described Dalal’s commitment to the Army Science Board. “He has earned a remarkable reputation for selfless service throughout the United States Army and the Department of Defense,” the announcement stated. “His exceptional devotion and dedication to duty reflect great credit upon him, the United States Army and our nation.”
