The Department fully supports the Faculty Statement on Academic Integrity. “Any breach of this intellectual responsibility is a breach of faith with the rest of our academic community. It undermines our shared intellectual culture, and it cannot be tolerated.”
The Department recommends that faculty adhere to Best Practices for Faculty, prepared by an Academic Integrity Working Group that consists of Columbia faculty and administrative support units to help avoid incidents of academic misconduct by students.
Students are expected to exhibit the highest level of personal and academic honesty as they engage in our classes and participate in our research projects. Students should refer to academic integrity statements and policies of their own school for the definitions of academic misconduct and best practices to ensure academic integrity in their academic work. If a faculty member suspects a breach of academic honesty, appropriate investigative and disciplinary action will be taken following Dean’s Discipline procedures.
