SUMMARY by Milton Lim; MA Statistics Student; President, Columbia Statistics Club:
“Professor Chenyang Zhong completed his PhD in Statistics at Stanford University in 2022 under Prof. Persi Diaconis, a well-known magician and mathematician. Diaconis is famous for proving that a deck of cards must be shuffled at least 7 times to reach a sufficient level of randomness. (Interestingly, if a deck of 52 cards is perfectly dovetail-shuffled 8 times, it returns to its original order exactly!). Chenyang also has research interests in MCMC methodology, random matrix theory, and ranking methods.”
