Minghui Yu (1983 - 2008)

We mourn the loss and will cherish the memories of one of the brightest and most promising students in the Department. The tragedy that occurred is unfathomable; in an instant, we lost a brilliant, gentle, and extraordinarily talented colleague. At Columbia, Minghui touched many lives, in the Department of Statistics, in the Physics Department, and in the Chinese student community. The entire department extends its deepest sympathy to Minghui's many friends and fellow graduate students - their loss is extraordinary, and their dignity remarkable. But it pales in comparison to the pain of his family, and with them lie our greatest sympathy and concern.
