Special recognition for MA Statistics students in a Data Hackathon team competition

A hackathon in January included interdisciplinary teams who sifted through 60,000 records tied to the presidential primaries. The 2 teams that received special recognition for best storytelling and data visualization included 4 MA Statistics students. The first team, P = MV included Han Cui and Xinjia Zhang. They found that candidates boosted their popularity by using social media to capitalize on televised debates and speeches. The second team, the Hacks and Hack Nots included Jingjing Feng and Sitao Luan. This team analyzed the most commonly used words by candidates on Twitter. Both teams also included students from Columbia College and the School of Journalism.
